WHAT'S SAKAI
大阪・堺について
During the Heian era, this area came to be called “Sakai” meaning “border” in Japanese, because it was located on the “border” of the three districts of Settsu, Kawachi, and Izumi.
Sakai prospered as a fishing and trading port, and it continues to develop as the second largest city in Osaka prefecture.
The city has an urban feel, with all the comforts that a city has to offer, such as convenient transportation, but if you explore the town a little further, you will see its culture and history. Especially when you experience the hospitality of the people who have preserved the culture over generations. Sakai will charm you.
